Ashurst Newsletter - Christmas 2025

Published: 19 Dec '25

19th December 2025

Dear Parents and Families,

As we come to the end of a very busy term, we would like to thank you for all your support.
We hope you enjoyed the wonderful nativity and KS2 performances as much as the children
and staff did; it was such a delight to see the children shine and share their talents with
everyone. The Christmas Bazaar was a great success with almost £300 raised for charity,
and thank you too for your generosity in providing delicious and healthy food for the
children’s Christmas Party. There are some complete packets of crisps and snacks
remaining and we intend to add these to your donations to The Wholesome Warehouse
from Children in Need Day and aim to deliver them early next week in time for their
Christmas food boxes.

Future Plans
Thank you to FAPS for their fundraising this term which has enabled us to purchase
additional resources and equipment for the school. Our main project in the future is to
construct a safe covered area for our younger pupils to further extend the learning
opportunities that we provide. This is quite a large project for us and, although we will be
submitting our bid to the Diocese, we are keen to make sure that we have a really bespoke
learning area.

Surprise Event
I would like to thank all of those who were involved in the planning, subterfuge and
preparation for what I thought was the FAPS Vintage Tea Party on Friday 5th December.
I truly had no idea when I arrived that there was anything else planned and to see so many
of you, past staff, governors, pupils, families and people from the village gathered to
celebrate my 30 years at Ashurst was amazing. And yes, I did cry when I realised that my
two children, my granddaughter and my husband were all there and were party to it too! It
is both a privilege and a joy to be part of this wonderful school and I really do look forward
to coming each day. Thank you again - your cards, comments and gifts have meant so much.

KS2 PE at the Village Hall
Following the success of last year’s PE sessions, we are delighted that we have been able
to book the village hall to increase our children’s dance and gym opportunities for PE. As
last year, if you have children in KS2 would you please drop them off at the Village Hall
from 8.15am on the following Tuesdays: 13.1.26, 20.1.26, 27.1.26, 3.2.26 and 10.2.26. Staff
will walk the children back up to school following their sessions.

Music Tuition
Mr Smith continues to give private flute and saxophone lessons in school on Monday
afternoons and has spaces available. If you would like more information, please contact the
school office.

After school clubs
Thank you to those of you who have already signed up; for the first half of the spring term
we are offering Textile club and Watercolour/art club on Tuesdays, Dance & Drama club
and Puzzle club on Wednesdays, Sports club on Thursdays and Construction club on Fridays.
All of these run from 3.30-4.15pm and we appreciate your prompt collection afterwards.
The after-school clubs do not run the first or last weeks of term.

Requests for Absence from School
Thank you for ensuring that your recent requests for absence from school, including late
arrivals and early departures due to medical/ dental appointments have been accompanied
by an absence request form (these are available to download from our website or paper
copies are available from the school office).

Emergency Fire Evacuation Procedures
We are delighted to report that our Emergency and Fire Evacuation Procedure practices
have gone very smoothly, and all children responded promptly and calmly.

Safeguarding
As always, should you have any concerns regarding your child/children, please contact the
school as soon as possible in order for matters to be quickly and effectively resolved.
Should you have any safeguarding concerns please contact the DSL team: Mrs Smith, Mrs
Welstead and Mrs Sansbury direct or via DSL@ashurstcofe-pri.w-sussex.sch.uk.

We would like to thank you for your continued support and hope that this information
proves helpful.

Kindest regards,

Mrs S Smith
Headteacher

Uniform requirements for Academic Year 2025-2026

We ask that all children wear the Ashurst school uniform every day. The requirements
have remained the same and have not changed for over 7 years. We are very proud of our
school and ask for your support in maintaining the correct uniform.
If your child has a particular need which necessitates an adaptation or change to the school
uniform listed below, please make an appointment to discuss this with Mrs Smith.

Please ensure that all items are named as already this term we are trying to identify the
owners of several sweatshirts and hoodies. Whilst the children can sometimes identify
their items by smelling them, staff do not share this skill!

  • Grey skirt, culottes or pinafore dress
  • Grey tailored trousers (long or short)
  • Green sweatshirt with school badge or green sweater/ cardigan (not their PE hoody).
  • White shirt/ blouse/polo shirt
  • White, black or grey socks
  • White, grey or green tights
  • Sensible shoes or sandals (not boots)
  • Green and white checked dress/checked ‘playsuit’

PE Kit

  • Green or white shorts/skorts, white T-shirt with a round neck, white socks, trainers,
    green hoody and green joggers.
  • Trainers are preferred footwear as they are more substantial than black plimsoles.
  • Leggings are not permitted, nor are joggers and shorts/skorts in other colours. We
continue to ask that PE kits be worn to school on days that your child has PE, or is
attending the after-school sports or dance clubs.
  • After-school Dance & Drama Club is on Wednesday, Sports Club is on Thursday.

Our school uniform requests that children wear sensible school shoes or sandals. It does
not include boots for any children, or trainers except for PE.

be removed or covered with tape for PE.

should be completely tied up once it is long enough to do so and this applies to both boys
